  1. In the episode of skins, the young men’s biggest concern seems to be sex. As soon as the episode starts we are aware of Tony’s comforter set which is a picture of two naked people on the sheets. After he does his morning exercises, he looks out his window over to his neighbor’s window to watch her naked and getting dressed. Later on that morning he calls his girlfriend and has a real explicit conversation about her body parts. Lastly he calls all his close friend to tell them that a young lady is having a party and that there possibility of “getting laid” is very high. From Tony’s conversations I can tell his number one concern is sex.

Another young man that I feel, according to this sit-com, main priority is sex is the young man name Sid. From the conversation he was having with Tony it is apparent that he is a virgin and looking to change that real soon. Tony said, “We have thing to talk about” Sid responded, “Like what” Tony said, “virgins, your virginity” and Sid’s attention instantly become more open to what Tony wanted to tell him. Before going to meet Tony in the café, Sid decides that he wants to ejaculate his self from a pornography magazine. Finally, Sid makes it to the café with Tony and as Tony’s girlfriend, Michelle, approaches, Sid is mesmerized by her body. By his word and actions I can tell that sex is his main agenda.

The consequences for not living up to genders expectations are few. If you do not live up to genders expectations then you are subject to get ditch. According to their way of living being a virgin is not what’s “in” and if you are a virgin then will get played like a sucker. For example, when Sid goes over to get the “Splif”, the semi-naked women is polishing her toe nail and whispering “You wish you could have me…” (Directing that to Sid) which in some form is taunting him. This is one example of what can happen to you if you do not live up to genders expectations.

I watched clips of the British teen drama skins. The episode was broken into parts, scene 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, and 1.5. While watching, I paid special attention on the differing roles of males and females. All female characters, are not expected to behave the same way. Females are portrayed in the show as sex objects, submissive, mysterious and manipulative.

From the British teen drama skins scene 1.1, females are portrayed as sex objects. A picture of a male and female was shown on Tony's cover sheet. Both were naked, but the male was in prone position while the female in supine position. Across in the opposite building, a female stood naked in her room. And Tony was stirring at her through his window lustfully. In addition, scene 1.2 shows Tony's best friend in a house with posters of naked females on the wall.

On the skins, females are portrayed as being submissive. Tony's girl friend Michelle, knew that Sid has interest in her. She mentioned to her friend cassie during a conversation, and she remained loyal to him. Also, she knows about Tony's mischievous behavior. But she can never stay angry for long with him. Instead, she huggs and kisses him at all times.

As well as the regular cast, females are portrayed as mysterious and manipulative. There are several important recurring characters in the scenes. For example, in scene 1.1, Effy Tony's younger sister shares the same qualities with him. She manipulated her brother Tony. He causes distraction in the house while she walked into the house quietly. In addition, she regularly breaks the fourth wall.

In conclusion, females are portrayed as sex objects, submissive, mysterious and manipulative on skins. There are different expectations for different kinds of women in the show. Some show their emotions to strangers as the French speaking lady did in the party that took place in scene 1.4. The way females are portrayed on skins is not real. Women are independent, strong and hard working.

I've watched skins, and I noticed how sex-oriented it is. The male characters all seem to think about sex all the time, and the females are rather timid and weak. The males are considered bad boys and act like delinquents.

In the beginning of the show, Tony is watching his neighbor undress. You can also see his bed sheets are sexual as well. This tells the viewers that he tends to enjoy sex and sexual things. He also has connections with lots of people, and they center around him.

Not all the boys are bad boys. Some of Tony's friends are rather innocent. Sid, who's portrayed as a nerd, is one of the innocent ones. Tony is trying to get him to lose his virginity. This, again, centers around the fact that they are sexual deviants.

The consequences of not living up to gender expectations is that they are looked down by other people. Tony's father dislikes him because he acts bad. They all seem to smoke, which tells the viewers that they go against the rules. Drugs also seem common between them.

The boys are sex-hungry deviants. Not all of them, the others just want to live life. Tony is portrayed as a bad boys and lives up to it. He has a large group of friends who seem to follow him. They are all trying to be themselves.

  4. In skins I noticed how sex-oriented it is. The young men’s biggest concern seems to be sex. Tony seem to have the biggest concern about sex. In the episode he stated that his friend had to have sex or they couldn't be friends anymore. He cared more about his friend losing his virginity then the friend cared hisself. He calls all his close friend to tell them that a young lady is having a party and that there possibility of “having sex” is very high.

Females are portrayed as sex objects and manipulative on skins. There are different expectations for different kinds of women in the show. The consequences of not living up to gender expectations is that they are looked down by other people. Tony think that you cannot be his friend without having sex first. And I totally disagree with that someone sex life shouldnt dictate being friends or not.

The televisions show “Skins” British teen drama that follows a group of teenagers in Bristol, South West England. This series seems very complicated to me in the way that they portray both men and women. What stood out to me most was how the men are portrayed in such non-affectionate care about life manners and how they treat women. The consequences of them not living up to the expectations of what a typical man should be like are astounding and as a result they a teased and forced to do thinks that they do not want to do.

In the first episode of skins, it is was obvious the young men’s main concern and focus is on sex. The episode kicks off we are aware of Tony’s quilt set which is a picture of two naked people on the sheets. After he does his morning exercises, he looks out his window over to his neighbor’s window to watch her naked and getting dressed. Later on that morning he calls his girlfriend and has a real explicit conversation about her body parts. Lastly he calls his close friends to tell them that a classmate is having a party and that there possibility of “getting some” is damn to happen. From Tony’s conversations I can tell his primary concern is sex. Tony is one of the main characters in the series skins. In this episode he plays the role of the ring leader in that, his coordinates trying to get his friends laid and getting drugs. In the beginning of this episode it started off by showing Tony starring at his female neighbor naked in her bedroom. On one of Tony’s phone calls he mentioned to the girl that it’s Sydney’s birthday soon and that if he doesn’t get some that means they can no longer be friends. This is a very harsh deal and consequence.

Tony is a straight up pimp, straight Don Magic Juan. Tony treated females like trash and dirt. His lack of sensitivity and emotion as he could and should have been willing to give up his own girlfriend to sleep with Sydney so that he would not be a virgin anymore. In a way females shouldn’t be treated like that. He showed no respect for females and he viewed them as sex objects. In one of the scenes the episode when he had went to the all girls’ school, where he was singing a song and he had all the females drawn to him. He was alluring them and he even had the teacher into him too. Most of the guys did not show respect to the females and their main goal towards females was mainly to have sex.

The party scene, Tony was trying to get all the females high off drugs so that at least one of them would sleep with Sydney his friend. Sydney seemed to go the opposite route and just decided to hang out and chill with a friend that he was introduced, Cassandra. Cassandra was a friend of Tony’s girlfriend, Michelle who they had originally set up to sleep with Sydney. Sydney seemed to be the only sensitive guy in these episodes. He wasn’t disrespectful to any of the females especially to Cassie. He listened to her when she was telling her stories and even though she asked him if he was ready for sex he refused. When she was sick he showed concerned and cared for her.

They didn’t seem to care about school. All they were concerned with was sex, drugs and parties. The expectations of both the male and female gender are too ridged and this needs to be broken by the society. The many consequences for not living up to genders expectations are few. If you do not live up to genders expectations then you are subject to get drain. According to their way of living being a virgin is not social norm and will not have the luck of being able to find a good companion. For example, when Sid goes over to get the “Splif”, the semi-naked women is polishing her toe nail and whispering “You wish you could have me” She was taunting him. This is one example of what can happen to you if you do not live up to gender expectations. The show was just a sexual show that acknowledged how hormones of teens are out of control.

Skins is a British teen drama that follows a group of teenagers in England. The visual components of the characters contribute a lot to my understanding of the gender relationships in the show. There's the typical popular boy (Tony), the low confident virgin (Sid), and the conceded girlfriend (Michelle). Tony is the main character in the show.

Tony plays the role of the popular character who is very manipulative but also gets all the girls. The show starts off with him locking the bathroom door so his dad cant get in and requires the father to take the door down. He also is very influential. He manipulates one of his best friends to pick up some mariuana to give to girls at this party so they can get laid. Also he is very attractive to the opposite sex. There was a scene in part 3 where he visits an all-girl school for a musical tryout. while he is performing girls are praising the way he looks and sings. IN contrast Sid, Tony's best friend is the complete opposite.

Sid enters the scene when Tony calls him up explainig that today is the day he is going to lose his virginity. at that point I already knew what character Sid was going to be. In addition he dresses - nerd like- and wears glasses which doesnt help. He expresses low cinfidence and self esteem by the ways he speaks with the opposite sex. Another visual component that caught my eye was located at the end of part 5. Tony and Sid were layed in the same bed under the same bed cover. Drawed On the cover was a male and female body on each side respectively. It just seemed coincidental that Tony was on the side with the male body which illustrated dominancce while Sid was layed on the side with the female.

Lastly but not least there's Michelle, Tony's girlfriend. She's the sexy, attractive, but conceded character. She enters the scene aggressively kissing Tony. Other visual components examples are the way she dress and talk. There was a scene in part 4 where she was at a party with tony wearing a tight clothing and dancing very seductiv over him. these visual components help me understand the role that Michelle plays.

Even though I have never heard about this show ever in my life until now these visual components help me identify what role each character plays in the show.

The skin episodes are British teen drama that follows a group of teenagers in England. Each of the skin episodes helps portray the role of genders. They also distinguish between the two sex genders. The episodes showed that men are not as affectionate. What really stood out to me is how women are portrayed as sex objects.
Tony (ladies’ man/pimp) feels that women can’t be his friend without having sex with him first. I totally disagree because that’s not what most women would feel comfortable with when first meeting a man. That also shouldn’t be the first thought that men has toward women.

Michelle (Tony’s girlfriend) would lead men on to thinking that women are sex objects by the way she present herself. The way she talks, dress, and look would lead men on to thinking that women is clearly sex objects. My personal opinion about women is they are mostly independent, smart, and successful. The way skins portrayed women isn't the way someone views the average female. When one fails to live up to their gender expectations, others looks down on them.

The british teen drama was very wild and highly sexuallly. The teens are disobident and have no reguards for rules. The main purpose of this drama seems to be sex. Sex is the motivation to everthing on their eyes and if u're not having it you are not ocnsidered cool.

Tony seems like their ring leader. He makes judgement call on everything. He does drugs and live chaotic. He wants his friend sid to break his virginity. But this is another sign proving that males think u have to grow up masculint and sexuall. It isn't nearly the truth some guys could be nuturing.

The women seem to fall into all the traps of the guys. They don't seem strong but just falling to peer pressure. Female sterotypes is that woman are supposed to be loving, caring, but submissive to the males wants. These girls drink and have as much sex as the boys. Life just has it's ways.
The episode one of the scences were Tony's covers had obscenity which was a picture of two naked people on the sheets. After he does his workout he looks out his window over to his neighbor’s window and spys on her getting dressed. But in order for him to do that she knew the window was up. He also called his girlfriend in had a conversation about sex. His day is based around getting laid.

Finally the scence where he tried to get the females high,so that they could want to sleep with sydney. That was wrong and also munipulative.Sid just always tried to fit in. He did't come off as inconsiderate as the others. He did'nt take advantage of the girl like he could have. These teens are living dangerous and just wild. All females are expected to act the same but in reality they don't.Some expect respect and demands more of others. This was an interesting drama series, because it's realistic.

So I watched the fives parts to the episode of skins in their entirety. I really paid great attention to how the gender of the different gender roles and characteristics of each of the different characters in this show. It seems that the biggest concerns of the male characters are primarily sex, drugs, and partying.
The first male character that is shown is Tony. His primary concern is sex. This is shown by the first scene he is laying down in his bed and his comforter is a picture of a man and a woman's body. The man is laying down with his body turned face down while the woman's body is faced up exposing her breasts and genitalia. He is shown to treat women in a very sexist manner. After he does a morning exercise, he voyeuristically looks at his neighbor's wife undress herself. He also feels that if his friend, Sid doesn't lose his virginity by his birthday he refuses to be his friend. He also calls his girlfriend, Michelle, "Nips" because of her nipples and he treats her like a piece of meat.
Sid is Tony's best friend whose primary concern is also sex but his sexist mannerism isn't up to par with Tony's. He is shown when talking to Tony, masturbating to porn. After he finished talking to Tony, he talks to his genitals as if they were a human being about losing his virginity. When Tony plans for him to lose his virginity at a popular girl's party, he is shown to be sexually attracted to Michelle but Tony plans for him to lose his virginity to her friend, Cassie who is mentally unstable and anorexic. He later buy cannabis (also known as marijuana), from a drug dealer that gives him three ounces of it and tells him that he has to pay him 300 pounds in two days or he will cut off his testicles. When they drive to a harbor to smoke marijuana, they accidentally put the car in drive and it goes into while looking for some rolling paper to smoke the cannabis. No one is hurt but they lost the bag of cannabis. Tony is disappointed about him not losing his virginity at the end of the episode as Cassie overdosed on sleeping pills and they were scared into bring her to a hospital but she woke up before she went inside.

(This is my first half because it's not letting me put it all in one comment)

    (This is my second half)
Chris is another friend of Tony and Sid. He is first shown talking to Tony after having sex with a girl. He is sexually attracted to his psychology teacher, Angie. He shows some sign of sexism when he answers her cell phone and curses out a male friend of Angie and tells him not to call her ever again like he owns her or something. He later goes out with Anwar to a "big, gay night out" at a gay bar with their homosexual friend, Maxxie, in order to meet and have sex with hot girls that go there. They later meet up with Tony and Sid at the party because they were bored and they cause destruction to some of the house and Chris has sex with a Polish girl at the party. It is clear that he feels that women are sex objects and he is trying to controlling to Angie as he belongs to her or something.
Anwar is another friend whose primary concern is sex as well. He is a Muslim that doesn't take his religion very seriously and this shown when he answers a phone call from Tony during an Islamic hour of prayer. He goes to a "big, gay night out" at a gay bar with Chris, and Maxxie only to meet hot women for sex along with Chris. They later go the other party and they cause destruction and Anwar gets into a fight with the other party goers. He also believes that women are these sex objects and he believes the more women he has to have sex with, the better off he is.
Clearly the gender role of the male in this show is very sexist and disrespectful toward women. It seems as those they all feel that women are there sex objects that they can use whenever they feel like it. They have no empathy for the girls in this show and they don't care how their personal feelings are. They are only concern about themselves. A father should not teach his son to have this gender role but clearly they do in this show. And if they don't try and live up to the gender role, they feel ashamed and their friends are embarrassed of them.

The first episode of Skins was very entertaining. The characters featured in the premiere episode were very interesting.

In the episode, Tony wants Sidni to "get laid". Tony wants it to be a 17th Birthday present so he helps him out with finding a girl he can have sex with. The whole episode is about sex, women and social status. It seems to be all the male characters care about.

Most of the male characters are portrayed as concerning themselves mostly wanting to having a good time partying and having sex. This is prominent with Tony who is making out heavily in a public restaurant and when Tony calls his friend to where the scene takes the audience to his friend in bed with a girl. Tony seems to be the one that is in command when it comes to doing things so the show has a male in a leading role. He wants to make sure that everyone he associates with is in on the fun whether it is on school grounds smoking or partying.

The show puts the male character in a defiant position. The father of Tony constantly scolds him with loads of foul language. Tony's friends are seen drinking, dancing and partying hard making sexual gestures to the girls at the party. This show stereotypes mens roles as being this one characteristic and that this is all they care about. If they do not live up to these expectations, then they could be portrayed as lest of a man or pressured to do something they do not want to do. Sidni was put in a position he felt uncomfortable with and was not ready for. Tony wanted him to do it for Sidni's own good. This is what I saw in this episode of skins.

  13. Skins an award winning British teen drama based on teenagers who live in England, as they go through the trials of a normal teenager in their junior year of high school. So far the show isn’t much different from American teen dramas in the US. It’s just a little more uncensored than most shows similar to it in the US. But it’s easy to watch Skins and understand what’s going on just by how the cast dresses and how they portray the characters even when they are not speaking.
The series is very genetic and you can easily guess what they’ll do next. Especially the cast they dress based on their roles so it’s easy to spot who is going to do what. Tony is a ladies’ man so of course he’s going to dress nice and act very suave and also the main character. However his best friend Sid somewhat of a side kick is quite the opposite, he’s a nerd who lacks a massive amount of confidence. Perfect example is when Tony and the gang went to a party and they had to take their shoes off. Tony socks were perfect and clean while Sid’s socks were dirty and had a hole in them. The morning of the party when Sid and Michelle were on the trampoline she didn’t have to speak on that seen to show how carefree here attitude was the camera, the shot and the lighting did it all. Even though the show is generic the way they filmed the show makes it unique.

In skins, “getting laid” is the main topic. The main character of this show is called by Tony and he seems to have the biggest concern about sex. In the episode he is painted like the pimp who is trying to get all is friend laid. He cares more about his friend losing their virginity and have sex then they have fun together. He showed no respect for females and he viewed them as sex objects that is why his friends don’t hang out to much with him; they all trying to be themselves but Tony only thinks about them going out with him and have sex.

After watching all the parts of the episode I finally chose the skin 1.2. The main characters are Tony, Sid, Michelle and at the end Cassie. This part of the episode began as Tony and Sid are having dinner in a restaurant. The main topic of their conversation is to make Sid, who’s a virgin, make sex. The whole conversation is about them going to a party where there will be a lot of girls where Sid will have the “V.I.P. tour of Nederland”. In this episode boys are like sex machines always trying and ready to hop on any living being. A male that don’t have the desire to get laid as a big problem according to Tony that is why is trying so bad to make Sid have sex.

As they are talking Sid looks out the window and seems amazed by Michelle walking in their direction. He thought that Tony arranged a night for him with Michelle. As she walks in she sat by Tony and they start kissing; surprising!!! Sid is so shocked that he can’t even eat his food no more. After the kissing Tony announce to Sid that he is going to spend the night with a cheap girl named Cassie. Girls are treating like sex toys, boys are always trying to “bang” one. All females are expected to act shy, careful, and simple, but each of them behave differently toward a situation. Like for example we have Michelle who’s always ready to have some, and we have Cassie that is a hyper one, they said that she just came out the hospital so doesn’t have all of her head.

In the show, the relationship between the two genders is only about sex, some girls have strange nipples, some guys have big penis, and some of them are charming. In this episode Tony is the pimp/charming/friend. There is one part where he was auditioning for a choir in a girl school. All of the girls were charmed by his singing even the teacher felt something for him. As he walks out one girl came to him and invite him to a party because they liked him a lot. Sid is the desperate virgin guy trying to get laid. He went to buy some drugs for the party and met a big-dicked guy and felt very uncomfortable with the man molesting him. Michelle is the kind of girls that always wants to have sex and knows which girls are ready to have sex with anyone. And Cassie is the crazy head lady ready to have sex with anyone.

At the end we can conclude that the whole episode is about a party where it will be a lot of girls that Sid would be able to have sex with. At the end of that part of the episode finally attend the party and we finally meet Cassie. As they knock at the door the party is about to start and that will be a long night for Sid because he as to sell the drug that he bought.

  15. On this British teen drama “Skins“, they’re are gender roles that each character plays. The females and males are all portrayed differently. Each character has their own personality traits, but they all have things in common . What stood out to me in this episode of “Skins “ is the female roles. The females in this show are all portrayed differently. Females in “Skins” portray no self respect, being very affectionate and much more. There are many different images that a female portray themselves to be in this episode of“Skins”.

Females are portrayed in a poor light in this British teen drama. Females are portrayed as sex objects in this television show. A scene that shows this is at the beginning when Tony is laying in bed with a comforter that shows a naked man from behind and the front view of a naked women. This scene also show how males have lack of respect for women in this show. In this episode females do no respect themselves . A scene that show this is when the woman across the street is allowing Tony to look at her naked while she is getting dress. In this same scene Tony sister is just arriving home from the day before. This scene is portraying a bad image for both of the women. It is showing how they don’t respect themselves as women.

Females are portrayed as being nurturing for their family. A scene that shows this is when Tony mom is preparing breakfast for her family. Nurturing is what society expect out of women. Therefore society display nurturing scenes in television shows such as “Skins”. Females are also portrayed as being very affectionate and willing to help their boyfriends with task. A scene that shows this is when Nipz agrees to help Tony find someone to have sex with Sid. Nipz also meets Tony and Sid at a restaurant and kisses Tony intimately while Sid watches. This scene shows how females are not afraid to show public affection towards their boyfriends.

Females are portrayed as being very emotional. A scene that shows this is when the students are in class and the teacher is crying hysterically while one of her students read an essay. Females also feels disrespected when other girls approach their boyfriend and they don’t get acknowledge . A scene that shows this is when Nips gets mad when they arrive to a party and the girl calls Nips Tony’s friend. Females get offended when other girls try to hit on their boyfriend and pretend like their not in the room. Female are also portrayed as party animals. A scene that shows this is when Nips and some of the other female guest are dancing at the party non stop.

All the females on this television show are not expected to behave the same way. There are different expectations for different kinds of women. All the females on the show have their own personality role that they must play as an individual. There are females from all races and backgrounds. There are females that are promiscuous, affectionate, emotional, and nurturing. Even though some of the females have some things in common they are all different in their own way. Not all females are alike in this episode of “Skins” are in real life.

On Skins, the males seem to be more concerned with sex, authority, and drugs. They are also the ones that come up with the ideas and plan out whatever it is they are doing.
The first thing on the males' mind is sex. Tony's primary focus is to get help his friend lose his virginity at this party. His friend is willing to go through everything to achieve this goal. In the show, he is supposed to have sex with a "drugged up", insane girl. Sex is the primary concern of the males in Skins.
Next, the males want to be the authority figure in every situation. In the beginning of the show, Tony does everything he can so take away from what appears to be his fathers' command. He doesn't obey him and disrespects him. The males also want to be the authority figures.
Lastly, the males in the show Skins, are the leaders in every situation. Tony makes all the calls necessary and puts everyone in their place for his plan to work out. The women pretty much just obey. The male is the leader and the women just submits to what the male is saying. Tony set up the plan, got his friend a girl to have sex with, punched the party-crashers, and drove the French girl's car to the hospital. The males are the leaders in the show Skins.
Overall, the show Skins shows that the males are more concerned with sex, authority, and being the leader.

  17. The MTV show Skins is a British teen drama show. It follows a group of friends through the ups and downs of their teen years. I believe that the show is very in your face and the characters are very rebellious! That's why it makes for good entertainment.

The main concerns the male characters have in the show is sex. Tony who seems to be the leader of the clique, world revolves around it. For example the first thing you see is his bed spread that has a body of a naked man and woman on it. Then he wakes just to look out the window and see his naked neighbor every morning!

Then the next character Sid is honestly just the nice guy in the group. He is still a virgin and is in love with Tony's girlfriend Michelle. Tony is really set on helping Sid lose his virginity! This is apparent when Tony and Michelle sets Sid up with a girl named Cassie who has just gotten out of the hospital for trying to kill herself. This was seriously taking it to the extreme.

The consequences for not living up to gender expectations can be seen in the episode when Cassie and Sid is on the trampoline and she tells him that Michelle knows that he is in love with her but Michelle only thinks of him as nice! The gender expectation is that he should be a jerk, aggressive, and more manly but because he is nice he gets looked over and used. Especially when Sid is told to go get the drugs that nobody else wanted to get from this unknown man. Maybe in the upcoming episodes he finds his voice and stands up for himself.

Overall, the male characters main concern is sex. They do over the top things just to get it. Tony and Sid are just to completely different people and it makes you wonder how they became connected! Sid faces major consequences for him being just a nice guy! But it seems like they're just living in the moment and thinking about the consequences later!

  18. The main concern of the males on the show is somewhat like the concern that males have today in most places. That concern is sex. Some of them think about getting sex way more than others do, almost like they have to have it. Some just see it as something they just do just because they want to at times. Other males see it as something they would like to do but have not found someone that is willing to do it or some other issue.

Tony is one of the man the main characters that has mostly sex on his mind. His comforter has a picture of two naked people on them. He has every explicit conversations with his girlfriend. They also rub on each other in oublic. Sex seems to be a big part of their relationship.

In the show, they made it seem like the guy Sid had to let go of his virginity. They were willing to do some crazy things to help him out. His friend Tony planned to get girls drunk and high on pills at a party so that one of them would have sex with Sid. He was trying to find the most desperate girl that they knew so she would have sex with him.

The consequences of not living up to losing your virginity is nothing major. If a male doesn't have sex, he somewhat doesn't fit in. It's nothing normal to them to see a male that has his virginity.

The show is somewhat accurate to the modern day world of males. One main concern of many of them is sex. Some act like they can't live without it. Some do it occasionally. And some just haven't been able to find anybody to have sex with.

  19. The main concern of the male characters seems to be simply sex. It’s the only thing they think about. There are many consequences for not living up to the one’s gender expectations. Like on the first episode they were plotting to help their friend Sid from being a virgin for any longer, by setting him with a young lady who will be willing to have fornication with the virgin Sid. Sid’s friends would like for him to live up to the traditional gender expectations of a man.

If one doesn’t live up to their gender expectations then, they will be looked upon differently as a wimp and nobody wants to be around or associated with a virgin. If someone is a virgin they will be isolated, not have as many friends, and picked upon with others. Others won’t respect them because they are not living up to the gender expectation as a man in society. This is the reason why Tony wants to change that for his friend Sid because he doesn’t want his friend to be a wimp. The average man living up to the gender expectations is not a virgin.

Females are portrayed as being gullible, passive, and naive towards the male characters. For example Tony uses the female characters for sex; not being their friend until they have fornicate with him or one of his friends. All of the female characters are expected to behave the same way. They will consent themselves to having sex with the male characters for pleasure. But, the ladies are still independent besides being passive towards the male characters. All women have the same expectations from the men (Sex).

The visual components of Skins show a strong contribution to my understandings of the gender relationships on this show. Everything from the scenery and characters helps me understand and relate to their expectations of the gender relationships on the show. Since our society is similar it’s easy to understand the situations because everyone remembers how people were treated in high school because they were a virgin, it was the main objective for every young male. The different characters made the show seem very realistic because no matter where you go there is a wimp that is scared or women, those who make fun of that wimp, and the jock who has all of the ladies.

The main objective for all the young men in the show is sex. The society in which they live is based upon being a virgin or not. If a male is a virgin, then he truly isn’t a man. The female characters are used solely for the purpose of sex and to help them live up to the expectations as a man. The visual components combined everything together so; everyone can see the situations and be able to fully understand what is going on and the possible consequences of being a virgin.

  20. Did you realize that skins is very sex orienated.
