Racism VS Racial Stereotyping

As we discussed in class, it can sometimes be difficult to parse out the differences between racism and racial stereotyping. Here are the Wikipedia definitions of each:
Racism
Stereotyping
Read the Wikipedia entries, think about what we discussed in class, and as a comment below write one paragraph discussing what you think the difference is between racism and racial stereotyping.

  1. The difference between racism and stereotyping to me, is racism, is when a person or group of people have pure hatred for a specific group of people, because of the color of their skin. And doesn’t allow that specific group of people to have the equal or same rights as a different color of people. Stereotyping, is when a group of people have beliefs or assumptions about another group of people in a specific color group, based on what they have heard or seen. Racism and stereotyping is different, because racism is hatred for a specific group of color. And because of that hatred whatever group is hated their not allowed to have the equal or same rights as another group that’s not their color. Stereotyping doesn’t have anything to do with hatred it just what someone believes about specific group of color, but what they believe doesn’t make them not allow that group of color to have the same or equal rights as any other group of color.

  2. After reading the wikipedia enteries, and thought about what we discussed in class, I think the difference between racism and racial stereotyping is,the term racism includes both the belief in racial differences, as well as associated prejudice, violence, dislike, discrimination or oppression. On the other hand, racial stereotyping is concerned with an individual's opinion that is based on assumption or experience. Everyone is involved in racial stereotyping and it is being accepted by the society.

I believe that the difference between racism and racial stereotyping is racism is a believed superiority of a certain race over another that becomes a hatred of the race. Racial stereotyping is more of a conception of a certain group, no deeper than that. For example, if i see a Mexican person working on a roof, you see a Mexican person working on a roof, and 3 other people have also, then the stereotype is that all Mexican people work on homes. It becomes racist when you say I hate Mexican people. Stereotyping is more of a similar view and racism is emotional.

I believe stereotyping and racism are totally different. Racism is when an individual is prejudice or shows discrimination towards another race. Racism is just pure hatred. Stereotyping is what one believes or says about another race and can often pass for a joke.Stereotyping can be either positive or negative. Racism is just negative. Neither should be used in describing another individual.

Racism goes on each and everyday world-wide.People are born into racism or they just grow into that cruel person.Racism is a negative thougt towards another group. Sterotyping and racism is sort of the same but its totally diffrent.Stereotyping can be either positive or negative. sterotyping is when a group of people have beliefs or assumptions about another group of people in a specific color group based on what they have heard or seen. After reading the wikipedia enteries, and thought about what we discussed in class these are the assumptions i came up for both words.

  7. When reading the two definitions from Wikipedia, I discovered racism and racial stereotype is totally unique. Racism means when a person has pure hatred for another race. Racism is an aggressive behavior toward a race on their belief. People can’t control racism, it just happens or some are raised that way. On the other hand racial stereotyping is when an individual judging someone else and it’s their opinion. Stereotyping is not bad as racism. We shouldn’t use the words when describing someone but instead we do.

  8. When I read the two defintions from Wikipedia,It gave me a better understanding about racism and racial sterotyping. My explanation of these terms are very similar in my point of view. Racism to me is showing a hatfeul action amongs a person or thing without caring if it offends them or it in any kind of way. Sterotyping means judgeing a person off looks, race, occupation, and etc.

  9. Racism is a certain belief about a certain race or ethnicity that leads to hatred based on that person's race. Racism was very heavy in the U.S.A for the past four hundred years in the dawn of slavery and Jim crow. The rise of prejudice and discrimination was much driven in the 1900s. Racial Stereotyping is when assumptions and beliefs about a person are shared among individuals. It involves a certain belief that this particular idea about a race holds true to all of the particular individuals of that race.

  10. Rasicm is simply prejudice and discrimination because of race. Rasicm shows the hatred that people have for another race. Racial stereotyping is only an assumption or belief. Racial stereotyping can happen among one race to another or it can happen between one person of a certain race to another person of the same race.

  11. In class last week we had a discussion about Racism and Racial Stereotyping. After reading their definition in Wikipedia, I came with the conclusion that Racism is a ethnicity, and/or nationality problem. It is based on violence, prejudice and dislike toward the other races. Whereas the Racial Stereotyping is a conception, a taught or a popular belief without hating the other races

  12. Ja'Kayla Johnson...Racism is having hate for a certain ethnicity for a certain reason. On the other hand stereotyping is judging a certain group of people thinking, they will act in a certain manner. Racism usually not always is taught, while stereotyping is from watching one's behavior.

  13. I see racism as hating someone of a different nationality background for no apparent reason but they look different. Racial stereotyping is judging people by how they look and looking at them as if they aren't normal.

  15. the definition from Wikipedia about racism and stereotyping, gave me a better understanding about racism and racial stereotyping. Racism is a very harsh treat meant of other people due to their race. I believe that racism is one of the greatest form of evil in all of mankind and it still exists to some extent because racism in America was more freely expressed sixty years ago than now and it's existence in modern-day society is with the usage of stereotyping other races.
